Former socceroo facing court on gun and drugs charges

Karen F. Dyson, who played for the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 1990s, died at 66

A Vancouver-area woman died on Thursday after being shot in the head by a former soccer team member, according to police.

The woman was shot in the arm near her home in the 5500 block of South Main Street about 1:30 p.m. PT.

The person who used a handgun to shoot Karen F. Dyson was still on the loose, and a search of a nearby area turned up no other suspect or information on his movements, police said in a statement.

Dyson, 66, died at the hospital. She played professionally in the 1990s for Vancouver Whitecaps. Dyson played on nine MLS teams. She had played for the Whitecaps from 1999-2005, and from 2010-2014 in Japan with FC Tokyo.

Police were looking for the gunman, 25-year-old John M. Fosdick, a convicted felon from Florida who lived with friends and his family in the 5500 block of South Main Street, according to police.

Police were conducting a criminal investigation.
